DAFO automatic fire suppression system

Puts out a fire the moment it starts

DAFO detects overheating in the engine bay and other risk zones, then releases fluorine-free Forrex EVO liquid agent through stainless steel piping before the fire can spread.

Sprayed as a fine mist through DW2 nozzles, Forrex EVO is a liquid fire suppression agent built on the most advanced technology: it combines the strengths of dry agents (which knock the fire down instantly) and liquid agents (which cool and form a protective film).

Each system is designed for the specific machine after a fire risk assessment, to the SBF 127:17 standard, and installed by DAFO-trained technicians.

Protected zones

  • Engine bay, turbocharger and exhaust
  • Hydraulic pumps and valve blocks
  • Transmission and torque converter
  • Battery box and electrical panels
  • Fuel filters and pumps (zones are set by the risk assessment)

How the system works

DAFO SV-K system
DAFO system layout: heat-sensing cable, CV-X control unit, alarm devices, display, red SV-K agent tank, separate nitrogen cartridge, piping and nozzles
Image: Dafo Vehicle
  1. 1
    Detection

A heat-sensing cable runs through the bay and activates at 180 °C.

  2. 2
    Alarm and control

The CV-X control unit sounds and lights the alarm on the cab panel and releases the system automatically. The operator can also release it with the manual button.

  3. 3
    Pressure

A nitrogen cartridge pressurises the tank to 20 bar. At rest the tank holds no pressure.

  4. 4
    Piping

The piston drives Forrex EVO through stainless steel piping to the nozzles.

  5. 5
    Suppression

Nozzles spray the agent onto the risk zones. Forrex EVO suppresses the fire, cools hot parts and leaves a protective layer on surfaces so the fire cannot restart.

Service and warranty

Service scheduleWeekly operator check. Service by a DAFO-authorised technician every 12 months. At 10 years the piston and agent are replaced and the nitrogen cartridge is hydrostatically tested.
Warranty12-month DAFO Vehicle manufacturer’s warranty. Valid when the system is installed to the manual by DAFO-trained technicians, uses genuine DAFO parts and agent, and receives its 12-month service.

For HSE and procurement teams

Risk assessment, supply, installation, training and scheduled inspection: every service from one team

DAFO-certified specialists assess, install, test and hand over every system, then provide scheduled service at every stage of its working life.

  1. Fire risk assessment

We inspect the machine on site and map hot surfaces, fuel and hydraulic lines, and electrics.

  2. System design

Detection cable, nozzles, tank position and agent volume are calculated for that machine to SBF 127.

  3. Installation

Our crew installs at the mine, and can remove and replace an existing system.

  4. Testing and handover

A dry test and a wet discharge test, then handover with a signed acceptance report.

  5. Training

Operators and mechanics learn how the system works and what to do on an alarm. Training and manuals come in Mongolian and English.

  6. Annual service and recharge

Service every 12 months to the DAFO schedule, plus the 10-year major service. Recharge from stock in Ulaanbaatar after any discharge.

Questions

What buyers ask us

For anything else, call or email us.

Which machines can you fit with DAFO?

Any heavy machine, whatever the brand: excavators, haul trucks, dozers, graders, loaders and reach stackers. We have fitted CAT, Bucyrus, Hyundai, BelAZ, Hitachi and XCMG machines.

Can you fit machines that are already working?

Yes. We fit systems on site to machines already working at the mine, and replace an existing system where there is one. We travel to mines anywhere in Mongolia.

Does it work in a Mongolian winter?

Yes. Per DAFO’s datasheets, the Forrex EVO agent, tank, nitrogen cartridge and CV-X control unit all work from −40 to +60 °C.

How does the system detect a fire?

A linear heat-sensing cable runs through the engine bay and activates at 180 °C. The CV-X control unit sounds and lights the alarm in the cab and releases the agent automatically. The operator can also release it with the manual button. The unit supervises the cable for breaks and shorts and logs every event.

Will Forrex EVO damage the machine?

Per DAFO’s datasheet, Forrex EVO is fluorine-free, non-aggressive to materials and components, and environmentally friendly. After a discharge the engine bay only needs rinsing with water. Video: cleaning up after a discharge (YouTube, opens in a new tab)

What happens after the system discharges?

Tell us. We recharge the agent and replace the nitrogen cartridge from stock in Ulaanbaatar, test the system and return the machine to work.

How often does the system need service?

Compared with other systems, DAFO has the lowest running cost: we inspect and replace only damaged parts. Schedule: a weekly operator check that the protected area is clean and leak-free; inspection by an authorised technician every 12 months; at 10 years the piston and agent replaced and the nitrogen cartridge hydrostatically tested. After a discharge the system is recharged.

What warranty do you give?

We pass on the 12-month DAFO Vehicle manufacturer’s warranty in full, on its terms: installation to the manual by DAFO-trained technicians, genuine DAFO parts and agent, and the 12-month service. The conditions are stated in our proposal.

Who supplies and installs DAFO in Mongolia?
